Today students transformed into detectives as they helped me solve the case of my mysterious neighbors. Students examined clues and created inferences. Next, student detectives were asked to make inferences about the owners of two very different pairs of shoes by making inferences and supporting those inferences with evidence.

For those that were interested, but couldn't attend the meeting - here is the Carson City Informational PowerPoint. Please view to find out information about locations, signing-up, cost, and payment dates.
Reading logs are now available on-line! Instead of filling out the reading log paper/pencil, please consider filling it out on-line. This way, reading logs do not have to be brought back and forth from school to home and there is less chance of losing the assignment. In hopes of getting all students online, those that turn in their logs online this week will earn classroom tickets, Mack Money, or team points. Students are required to fill out four logs a week - Monday night through Thursday night; logs will be considered late/missing if they have not been submitted by Friday morning. Student login codes are their student numbers and the password is: hinton (all lowercase). Students have been shown how to login in class, and have been asked not to complete any other assignments at home except for the reading log (other assignments are to be done in class). The ScootPad website can be accessed under the "Helpful Websites" link, but here is a link for easy access. If you need a book to read - try loging in to RAZ-Kids (found under helpful websites). The teacher code is: AHINTONG
Several of you have asked for extra math over the weekend: if you're interested, look for different angles in objects around your house. Draw the objects and label the angles as obtuse, acute, or right. Can you find any objects that have more than just one type of angle?
I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend! Because of Labor Day, students were not at school on Monday, and therefore missed their Library day. This means that students will not be able to check out library books until next Monday. Since students are required to earn 10 AR (accelerated reader) points a trimester on books they read on their own, students are provided time to read and AR test in class. (AR testing opens next week - more info will be provided to students then). I have passed out picture and chapter books to students at random, and students will be allowed to select and check out books from our classroom library later in the week (after check-out procedures are taught). To ensure students have books they are interested in, please send your student to school with books from home this week for their "read to self" time.
This Friday at 6:00 is 4th Grade Movie Night! Admission to Aladdin is free to all, and snacks/pizza/drinks will be sold. Parents need not stay as there will be plenty of chaperones - just be sure to return for pick-up at 8:00. If you are interested in donating, the following items are needed before Friday afternoon:
The music teacher, Ms. Minger, will be holding auditions for the school musical (Aladdin) the same day - right after school from 2:11 - 4:00. Permission slips went home last week and must be returned prior to try-outs. |
Please check the Nate Mack site for schoolwide information.
